The Perfect Fit: Understanding Mininor Nipple Sizes for Your Baby's Needs
by Morris Friis on May 13, 2025
Choosing the right nipple size can feel a bit confusing, especially for new parents. That’s why we’ve made it easy. At Mininor, we design our bottle nipples to match your baby’s needs at every stage—so feeding stays smooth, safe, and comfortable.
Here’s a simple guide to help you pick the right nipple size as your baby grows.
Why Nipple Size Matters
Getting the right nipple size isn’t just about milk flow—it helps your baby feed more naturally and comfortably.
-
Too slow? Your baby might get frustrated and stop feeding.
-
Too fast? It could lead to choking or overfeeding.
All Mininor nipples have a special anti-colic valve that helps reduce air intake while feeding. This helps prevent gas and discomfort and makes it easier to switch between breast and bottle if needed.
Mininor's Five Nipple Sizes
0m+ Nipple
Best for: Newborns and breastfed babies
Flow: Slowest
The smallest hole for the gentlest flow—perfect for newborns just learning to bottle feed or babies who are also breastfeeding.
3m+ Nipple
Best for: Babies 3 months and older
Flow: Slow to medium
Slightly faster flow for babies who seem frustrated with the newborn nipple. Great for those getting the hang of bottle feeding.
6m+ Nipple
Best for: Babies around 6 months
Flow: Medium
With a larger hole, this nipple is ideal for older babies who are feeding more efficiently and may be starting solid foods.
9m+ Nipple
Best for: Babies 9 months and older
Flow: Medium-fast
Made for experienced feeders who are drinking more and need a faster flow. Still offers control to prevent overfeeding.
9m+ Cross-Cut Nipple
Best for: Thicker liquids like formula with cereal or smoothies
Flow: Variable
Instead of a round hole, this nipple has an X-shaped opening that stays sealed until your baby sucks. Perfect for thicker drinks, with no leaks.
When to Move Up a Size
Every baby is different, but here are some signs it might be time for a faster flow:
-
Your baby gets fussy or pulls away during feeds
-
Feeding takes longer than 15–20 minutes
-
The nipple collapses while feeding
-
Your baby finishes a bottle in under 10 minutes
Use age as a guide, but always watch your baby’s feeding cues.
How to Spot the Right Size
All our nipple packs are clearly labelled with the recommended age. You can also check the nipple itself:
-
Round-hole nipples (0m, 3m, 6m, 9m) have slightly larger holes as the size increases
-
Cross-cut nipple (9m+) has an X-shaped opening instead of a round hole
Caring for Your Nipples
To keep your Mininor nipples in top shape:
-
Wash with mild soap and rinse well
-
Sterilize using boiling water or a steam sterilizer
-
Always check for cracks or damage before use
-
Avoid harsh cleaners or scrubbing
-
Replace every 2–3 months, or sooner if worn
