Children are born with a strong sucking reflex, and the need to suck is completely natural. The child's need to suck continues in the first years - even if breastfeeding or bottle feeding is no longer used. The pacifier therefore becomes a beloved companion for many children, giving the child a sense of security and calm.

It is better for the child to suck on a pacifier than a thumb, as the pressure from the thumb is stronger and more persistent than the pressure from a pacifier. At the same time, the pacifier can be removed from the child over time - the thumb cannot.
